I don’t believe it

I wonder how often you hear people say ‘I don’t believe it!’ I expect that very first Easter morning it was said a lot!! After all they had all witnessed Jesus dying on the cross – such pain, torture. No one could have survived that. Jesus’ body was place in the tomb and a huge stone rolled in front of it so no one could get in and noone could get out. Yet that first Easter morning, the stone had moved, Jesus’ body was missing and there were angels saying He is not here, he is risen!!!

What happened in the next few weeks was amazing. Jesus appeared to Mary, a couple of disciples travelling to Emmaus, the disciples in a locked room, made breakfast on the beach for Peter and some disciples and Jesus appeared to over 500 others… Wow how could you say ‘I don’t believe it’ after all that!!

Let’s explore some of those stories together

Mary’s Story

Road to Emmaus

Thomas’ story

Peter’s Story

Some questions to think about together

  • I wonder which is your favourite story
  • I wonder why Jesus’ didn’t reveal who he was straight away?
  • What did Mary need? What did Thomas need? What did Peter need? What did the disciples on the road need?

Have a look together at all the different stories and verses where Jesus appeared to people after he came back to life and talk about them together.

Prayer

In one of the stories today Jesus met with his followers while they were on the road. Why not plan a route you can walk in your community. Think of places you would like to pray for that could be on your route – friends homes, schools, parks, etc

Pray for the people and places you pass on your walk.

Pray for those in the world who don’t yet know Jesus that this Easter time they would want to find out more about Jesus. Pray that Jesus would give you courage to share Jesus’ story with others so they can know Him too.
