Youth groups

Sunday mornings @ St James

Ocsocks which stands for ‘Oldest, Coolest, Smartest Of Church Kids’ is the name of our Sunday morning youth group, for those at secondary school.

It meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month in term time. The 4th Sunday is our informal Oasis service for all ages.

We sometimes hold social events, such as our annual bonfire and fireworks evening in November.

The leaders are Andy Mullens, Andy Barlow, Catharine Turton and Brenda Lord.

Staying Connected:

Those over the age of 13, may join the Ocsock WhatsApp group. This helps us to share helpful information, and model how a social media group should be used.

Sunday evening @Emmanuel

Thirst: Years 9-13

‘Thirst’ is a small friendly youth group that is happy to welcome new teenagers from any church or none. As well as looking at how the Bible is relevant to us today, we do lots of chatting, and usually have some craft and badminton available. We sometimes hold social events.

It meets on Sunday evenings in term time from 7 pm – 8.30 pm in the upstairs room at Emmanuel Church centre in Southlake Crescent, RG5 3QW.

The leaders this term are Brenda Lord, Catharine Turton, Sam Colyer and Claire Jones.

Laurie-Ann Price, who is the Youth Pastor at Emmanuel, is on maternity leave until April.

On the last Sunday of the month, we join our friends at St Andrew’s Church in Sonning, for their Sunday at Six service, from 6 pm – about 7.15 pm. This is a short, light, youth friendly service. Adults and children also attend. Arrive early for refreshments. We suggest you park in Sonning Lane and walk down the hill, through the gate, into the church yard. We meet in the church hall called ‘The Ark’.

Staying Connected:

Thirst uses WhatsApp or text as a means of staying connected during the week. We consider these to be safe methods and our teenagers enjoy it very much. The registration form for Thirst can be found here

If you would like to know more about the youth work, please speak to one of the youth leaders.
