March Messy Church

March’s Messy Church explores another meal with Jesus. We meet a really unpleasant man who wasn’t liked by anyone – he was mean and nasty and even cheated people. Jesus chose to invite himself round to his house for a meal. We don’t know what Jesus and Zacheaus discussed but after the time he spent with Jesus, Zachaeus was a changed man. You can read about what happeded in Luke 19: 1-10.

  • I wonder what Jesus and Zacchaeus discussed together
  • I wonder what this encounter tells us about God.
  • Zacchaeus was a really nasty person, a cheat and noone liked him. I wonder how the crowd felt when Jesus went to Zacchaeus’ house.
  • I wonder how they felt when Zacchaeus gave back the money he had stolen from them.

Zacchaeus up a tree

Cut out Zacchaeus and colour him in.

Decorate the tree with the tissue paper to make the leaves and the trunk of the tree.

Punch a hole at the top of the tree and another one at the bottom.

Thread the wool/string through the holes and tie it behind the tree.

Tie the yarn near the top of the page, and attach Zacchaeus to the bottom of  the page with sellotape so he can easily move up and down the tree.

For younger children attach Zacchaeus to a piece of wool/string, punch a hole in at the top of the tree only. Thread the wool/sting through and knot. Zacchaeus can be pulled up and down the tree easily.
