James: It’s not fair!

It’s not fair! I wonder how many times you’ve heard that – in the playground, on TV, at school, work, at home. I wonder is it something you’ve said.

God is a fair God. Do you think the world is a fair place?

Why not talk together about where you see things in the world that are not fair.

Sometimes we may feel that we are so small that there is nothing we can do to change how people are treated, to make the world a fairer place.

But God says we can all do our part:

Do what is right to other people, love being kind to others, and live humbly, obeying your God’

Micah 6:8

I wonder what we can learn from Jesus about how to treat others.

Here are 2 stories about how Jesus treated those who were treated differently.

Bible Story

Here are 10 men who, because they were sick, couldn’t be with their families and friends. Everyone stayed away from them. They were so lonely.

This story is about someone nobody like because he treated others unfairly. How did Jesus treat him? What happened to Zacchaeus?

Douglas helps us understand why we need to treat others how we would like to be treated.

Songs

Sometimes we maybe the people who are finding it hard because of how others are treating us. That’s hard. But when we’re finding life tough and there are lots of challenges we can remember what a powerful God we have and we can rely on him.

Prayer

Maybe you think God isn’t interested in your prayers when you’re finding it tough but did you know many of the Psalms are people telling God ‘It’s not fair’ ‘Why is this happening….’

You might find this prayer activity helpful

You will need a container – a box or a jar. Make a label ‘worry box/jar’ and stick it on it.

Tear a piece of card or paper and write or draw the things you are worried about on it.

when you’re ready put your worry into the box, and as you do it imagine you are giving it to God.
