Epic Explorers Jesus is alive: Sunday 20th Feb

Join us today Epic Explorers as we discover Crown Cave and find out that Jesus is alive!

Last time we found out that when Jesus died He took the punishment we deserve for our sin and through Jesus’ death, there is now a way for us to be forgiven friends of God.

But was that the end of the story?

Did Jesus stay dead? Or did something amazing happen- Jesus beat death and we can know new life in him.

You might like to look on our map to see where we are today. Can you find Crown Cave?

Craft

Jesus Tomb craft:

You will need to cut out the stone, the tomb and the strip at the top of the page. Get an adult to help you cut slits in the tomb where there are dotted line. You can slide the strip through the slits to tell the story. Using a split pin attach the stone to roll in front of the tomb when Jesus body is placed inside, then move it away when 3 days later he had come back to life.

Game

Have you ever played Kim’s game?

You will need a tray with about 10 objects on it – eg: fork, ball, pencil sharpener etc

  • Look carefully at all the objects for about 1 min
  • Cover up the tray and see how many objects you can remember.

Today we’re thinking about eyewitnesses. This game helps the children look carefully to take in all the details of what was on the tray. They were eyewitnesses of what was on the tray.

Story

You’ll find today’s story in Mark 16: 1-8. It begins 3 days after Jesus had died. Everyone was very sad but then something amazing happens ….

Some questions to think about together

  • Jesus is alive. I wonder how that make you feel?
  • how do we know Jesus was definitely dead?
  • What were the different things the women saw and heard when they arrived at the tomb?
  • Should the women have been surprised that Jesus rose from the dead? (Look at Mark 16:7 and Mark 8:31)
  • I wonder why is it important that Jesus rose again?

Memory verse

I wonder if you can remember all 3 parts to our memory verse

Today we add where you can find the verse in the bible:

Mark 10:45

did not come to be served but to serve

and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Prayer

Playdough prayers:

Take a lump of playdough and roll it into the shape of the stone that might have covered the entrance to Jesus’ tomb. As you mould your playdough, think of one word to describe Jesus coming alive. You can share your words with each other. As you hold your ‘stones’ in your hands, thank God that Jesus come to die in our place, and to offer us forgiveness and everlasting life.
