Oasis: Sadness

This month the theme for our Oasis service is Sadness.

The journal ‘Jesus and Emotions’ is a really good resource that families can work through together. If you would like a copy please let me know.

Let’s meet SADNESS!

Some questions to think about together

  • I wonder what does sadness feel like in your body
  • How do you show when you’re sad?
  • Can you think of a time when Jesus was sad?
  • Do you think God wants us to tell him about the things that make us sad? Why?

This month we’re exploring the story of Jesus and his very good friends Mary, Martha and Lazarus. This passage contains the shortest verse in the bible … can you spot it?

You’ll find the story in John 11: 1-44

  • How did Martha and Mary express their sadness differently?
  • Why do you think Jesus wept even though He knew Lazarus would come back to life?

Prayer

During the service today there will be several prayer stations exploring our emotions. Perhaps you can do some of them at home too. God loves us to talk to him no matter how we feel. He has promised to be there, to listen and help us.

You will need to make your hopscotch game with chalk or paper

We are sad because we don’t have something anymore, but we can be thankful for something we do have. Thankfulness is really important for feeling well . The bible is full of emcouragements to thank God for everything in our lives.

Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks.

Phil 4:6

Here are some activity sheets to help you be thankful everyday.
