Sunday 24th May

The Oasis is our new intergenerational act of worship. Each month we will be exploring a different topic together, asking questions about faith and the Bible, and applying what we learn to our lives.

This month’s topic is:

Thy Kingdom Come

Teach us to pray, Lord Jesus:
show us how to ask for the things you treasure,
encourage us to intercede for those you love,
and help us to listen for the sound of your voice,
today and always. Amen.

Song of Worship

Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness. Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; Let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145: 3,4

Bible Reading

Loved: A version of the Lord’s Prayer by Sally Lloyd-Jones

or

Matthew 6:5-13 (NIVUK)

5 ‘And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 ‘This, then, is how you should pray:

‘“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”

St James’ Shares: What helps you pray?

Questions for Discussion

Discuss the following questions with your family, or head over to our Slack #chat channel to share your thoughts with the church.

  1. What things help you to pray?
  2. Which part of the Lord’s Prayer spoke to you today?
  3. What 5 people could you pray for this Thy Kingdom Come?

Prayers

If you would like to spend some time in prayer either alone or with your household, then I would encourage you to click to access the Thy Kingdom Come Prayer Journal. I would recommend using either Day 1 or Day 2 to help you listen to God’s voice, and pray for those He brings to your mind – Laurence.

Lord’s Prayer Video

Before we join together to say The Lord’s Prayer, pause and take some time to reflect on the words of this prayer.

Song of Worship

We don’t always know what words to use when we pray but our God knows what we need before we even speak the words. He IS a Good Good Father, and we are LOVED by Him.

‘God has chosen you to be his own special treasure’. Deut 7: 6-8

Final Blessing

May the Holy Spirit give to each of us faith,
discipline, perseverance and joy
as we pray over these 10 days and beyond,
so that the love and peace of Jesus
may be known across the world;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among us and all those for who we pray
now and always. Amen!

Thanks for joining us for this month’s Oasis!
