Sunday 23rd August

The Oasis is our new intergenerational act of worship. Each month we will be exploring a different topic together, asking questions about faith and the Bible, and applying what we learn to our lives.

This months topic is:

New Seasons

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” – Isaiah 40:8

“I the Lord do not change.” – Malachi 3:6a

Time of Worship

Our worship is in response to who God is. The Psalms are full of amazing verses reminding us of how amazing God is. Psalm 89:8 “Lord God All-Powerful, there is no one like you. You are strong, Lord, and always faithful.” Turn to the psalms and be ready to speak out phrases and verses that give us reason to praise God.

Puppet Memory verse

Memory verse Week 7 Psalm 91:4
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 NCV, read by members of St James

Bible Reading – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1    There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2     a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
("There is a time to hug, and a time not to hug." - NCV)
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7     a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8     a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Questions for Discussion

Looking Back
  • Name some things that have changed recently – have they been good or not good?
  • I wonder whether you enjoy change, or try to resist it?

Looking Forward

  • What big changes have you got coming up in your life?
  • How can faith make a difference as we enter new seasons of life?

Remember to head over to our #chat channel on Slack to share your thoughts!

Time of Reflection /Prayers

You will need to print off this Finger Labyrinth to use for our prayers today.

As we finish our prayers and draw our service to a close we are reminded what an amazing God we have, ever present, all powerful, unchanging and we fall to our knees and honour the King.

Sending Out

The Lord watch over us
His hand below
His arms around and His Spirit within,
and so may He lead us this and every day
as we travel along life's chequered path.
In the name of Christ
Amen
