A Message from the Vicar

Hello, and thank you for your interest in this exciting new role at St James’, Woodley.

We believe that God has called us as a church to reach the young people of this town, and to help them understand their worth and potential through the eyes of Jesus. Youth work has always been a priority in the parish, shown in our ongoing commitment to fund, pray for and practically support those working with our young people.

We are looking to appoint a part-time Youth Worker with a passion for outreach, who can work with us to develop an inspiring vision for the future of youth ministry here. We already have a small but dedicated group of gifted teenagers who are ready to share this venture.

This is a position with tremendous opportunities for someone with a commitment and vision for youth work. Having recently been appointed to the parish myself, I look forward to working closely with you as we discover what it is that God wants to do with us here.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

About Us

St James’ Church is a lively and modern open-evangelical Anglican church of about 150 people on the outskirts of Reading, founded in 1974. Our church family is committed to regular worship, as well as an array of social and outreach activities – many of which involve food! We have a thriving Messy Church congregation, and several mid-week Home Groups. The Church Centre itself was built with the needs of the surrounding community in mind, and is emerging as a social hub for the local neighbourhood, catering for Scout and Guide groups, exercise classes, parties and more, as well as a thriving pre-school.

We currently employ a full time vicar (Laurence), an office administrator (Becki) and a part-time Children’s & Families Worker (Linda). The Youth Worker will work alongside this small team.

We also have a close working relationship with nearby Emmanuel Church, and until recently we were one parish. Youth work between the two churches has always been closely linked, and our hope is that the new Youth Worker will collaborate with the part-time worker at Emmanuel.

For more details about who we are and what we do, see our website or pay us a visit on a Sunday morning at 10:30.
