Walkers Unite! – August 2016

Osterley Park – August 2016

Our joint outing this year not only combined 23 men and women but also those who walk a distance and those who simply enjoy an outing.

Surprisingly few of us had visited Osterley Park before, a forgotten National Trust gem! The impressive House, gardens and parkland beckoned for around a third of our number during the morning, whilst the walkers exited the park to the northeast to discover the interesting industrial and cultural heritage of the nearby Grand Union Canal. Taking them past the Hanwell flight of six locks and the site of St Bernards Hospital it was worth braving the rain to see!

At lunchtime we all met up at ‘The Plough’ at Norwood Green which provided us with excellent lunches while we dried out, and the café at Osterley Park also served us well.

A short walk then brought us back across corn fields and the M4 and into Osterley Park again, where there was time for further exploration before departing for home.

The men and women walkers of St James and around Southlake have now gone back to their separate ways, only occasionally meeting accidentally in some unlucky pub.

Join us on alternate Tuesdays, 9.30am at the church and let us take you to pastures new!
